Gurh” is a well-known household name. Who doesn’t know this name in India? Each and every one of US are attracted towards its unique sweetness. It’s a substitute for refined sugar in most of our houses. Jaggery is being used in India since ages in making different sweets .many traditional drinks and delicacies are incomplete without the use of gurh. So what is this gurh actually is? Well, it’s a concentrated product of can juice, date or palm juice without separating molasses and has a there range of colors from dark to light brown to yellow. It also has a fair proportion of fibers and protein. Which makes is better than refined sugar. Jaggery can be mixed with a large number of items such as coconut, peanuts, and other items to make dishes. All of us have heard and have tasted the “Tilgud” complete sweet made up of Jaggery and till on the occasion of Makarsankranti. Makarsankranti is incomplete without this sweet another popular sweet is puran poli from Maharashtra which is made up of gurh. Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have their own dishes made up of gurh which are quite popular such as pitha and payassam. In Myanmar, gurh is used in regular practice. Children and adults take jaggery with organic tea and are referred to as Burmese chocolate.
