Description
Panam kalkandu or Lump sugar palm is a kind of rock sugar made from the palmyra sap which is extracted from the flower of Palmyra palm. Lump sugar palm crystals are much smaller than you might get with cane/beet sugar and has a light brown colour. Real Panam kalkandu is not made from cane sugar but palmyra sugar, made from the palmyra palm, also called the toddy palm. It is good for health and it can be used to reduce the body heat. It’s cultivated in the districts of southern Tamilnadu like Tirunelveli and northern Sri Lanka.
