Description
Black salt is also known as kala namak or sanchal, Himalayan black salt. Black salt commonly known as sanchal, kala namak is a pungent smelling, pinkish grey colored salt extensively used in Indian cuisine. It is available as whole chunks or in powdered form. The alkaline properties of black salt help reduce excess acid in the stomach, and its high mineral content lessens the damage caused by acid reflux. Black salt is commonly required to prepare certain types of Indian dishes, particularly ones found in the countrys northernmost regions. It is typically used as a condiment, and is often added to raita or chutney. It is also a key flavoring agent in many types of Indian meals, such as pani puri.
